Lufthansa takes off with Starlink high-speed internet for the first time

Lufthansa’s Starlink-powered Wi-Fi launch is a big leap for European aviation.

Inaugural Flight Details
- Aircraft: Airbus A320neo “D-AINM” (November Mike)
- Route: Frankfurt → Rome (LH234)
- Date & Time: 19 August 2026, 12:15 p.m.
- Milestone: First Lufthansa Group aircraft with Starlink high-speed internet

Service Highlights
- Speed: Internet often faster than home or office connections
- Coverage: Works from take-off to landing, across oceans and deserts
- Access: Free for Miles & More members and Travel ID users
- Portal: Includes destination info, eJournals, flight services, and terms of use

Rollout Plan
- 2026: Up to 10 more A320-family aircraft (Lufthansa + Lufthansa City Airlines)
- Installations: Primarily at Lufthansa Technik, Berlin
- 2029 Goal: ~850 aircraft across all Lufthansa Group airlines equipped
- Impact: Largest airline group in Europe with Starlink Wi-Fi

Strategic Vision
CEO Jens Ritter framed this as part of Lufthansa’s modernization drive—new aircraft, services, and tech to reinforce its premium positioning. Mastercard continues as sponsor, extending its partnership from the earlier FlyNet program.

This rollout positions Lufthansa as a connectivity leader in Europe, rivaling airlines in Asia and the Middle East that have already embraced Starlink.
