The Airports Authority of India (AAI), under the Ministry of Civil Aviation, has continued its nationwide “Yatri Seva Abhiyan 2026” with a focused initiative aimed at enhancing passenger service standards and strengthening passenger-centric behaviour among frontline airport personnel.
Key initiatives
- Soft-skill refresher training: Shift-wise sessions were conducted for frontline staff, emphasizing courteous communication, empathy, professional conduct, and effective passenger interaction.
- Passenger-first approach: Staff were trained to better understand and respond to passenger needs, concerns, and queries with patience and sensitivity.
- Professional grooming standards: The initiative reinforced the importance of maintaining proper grooming, uniform standards, and a consistently professional appearance.
- Practical service scenarios: Short micro-sessions addressed real-life situations such as:
- Assisting elderly passengers
- Handling complaints
- Managing flight delays
- Overcoming language barriers
Recognition and motivation
AAI encouraged airports to recognize employees who demonstrate exceptional customer service through initiatives such as:
- “Best Sevak”
- “Best Smile”
These recognition programs are intended to motivate staff to consistently deliver outstanding passenger experiences.
Objective
The campaign reinforces AAI's belief that excellent passenger service is driven not only by modern infrastructure and facilities but also by positive human interactions. Guided by the principles of “Seva and Sankalp” and “Service with Smile,” the initiative seeks to foster a culture of professionalism, warmth, empathy, and service excellence across Indian airports.
Why it matters
By investing in customer-service training and employee recognition, AAI aims to make airport experiences more comfortable, courteous, and passenger-friendly, ensuring that every interaction contributes positively to a traveler’s journey.
